This filly is very smart and very
athletic.
We had a bad storm go through here one night
and when I went out to feed in the morning, Maisy was in the
pasture and her dam (Ellie) was in the road ditch. We
don't know quite what happened but Ellie was eating happily in
the ditch and Maisy was hanging with the other foals. I
had to chase Ellie into our hay yard and off the road to catch
her. The whole time, I was holding my breath that Maisy
wouldn't get scared and run through the fence. I can't
believe how good minded this filly is. She seen her dam
and trotted up to the fence and whinnied but that is as far as
it went. I even had to take Ellie out of sight to get her back
to the gate and Maisy never gave me any trouble. She likes to
run, play and show off in the pasture though. She follows
and is calm when we brought her dam in to be bred back.
She is curious and likes people. She is correct. I'm
just really happy with her.
I was pitching hay the other night and looked over and my daughter was half way through the fence, leaning way in, petting and feeding hay to Maisy. When I went to load them to take them back out to pasture, I didn't have any help. Usually the foals get scared of the trailer and there is not much of a chance of loading by your self. I gave it a try anyway. I loaded Maisy's dam 1/2 way and waited until Maisy was looking in the door. I lead the mare forward and Maisy hopped right in behind her. I am really pleased with all the sense this filly has. She has never given us any trouble. She does not have any tendencies to kick or bite either. She is good natured and smart. We feed the mares daily and spend a lot of time petting both the mares and the foals. The San Peppy Drift foals learn fast. This filly should be a breeze. She just has such a nice disposition.
Maisy's dam has a better that average
OTMR head but it is still pretty plain. She is about 15.1
and very good bodied. I just love the way that she is put
together. She is a very athletic mare and a pretty mover.
The OTMR mare can be a little watchy. She is all business
and nice to be around.
I think the cross with San Peppy Drift really
worked well with this mare. I bred her back the same way. The
mare could use a little more sense and it sure came through to
this filly. If this mare wasn't young and I knew that I would
have more foals out of her, Maisy would be my keeper this year.
I really think highly of her. She should mature 15.1 and will
have good bone and good feet. Both sire and dam have great bone
and great feet. My stud has a ton of heart and is very honest.
This filly has a ton of potential.
Here is a good link for OTMR. http://www.sunrisewest.com/otmr.html
Miss Desperado Red is a 3/4 sister to the
dam of Verily Sixes who is on that website and also Mr Money Red
Bar who ran at the NFR and helped Tami Fontenot qualify for it a
few years back.
